Scoliosis

(laeticia) #1
Surgery may be recommended for patients who do not
respond to non-surgical therapy after a long time.

Some examples are :

  • have curves that are over 50 degrees

  • sense a decline in lung function or neurology

  • not being able to do everyday tasks like standing up

Different types of surgical procedures may be used, such
as:

  • Laminectomy, to alleviate pressure on the troubled nerve
one portion of one of the bones in vertebrae is extracted.

  • Discectomy, is where in between the vertebrae a section
of one of the discs is removed to ease the pressure on the
    affected nerve.

  • Spinal fusion, is where the nerve is reinforced, supported,
and straightened by fusing together two or more
    vertebrae.
