Dalmia DSP Success Story

(Project Pridr) #1

The load centre for LS conveyors was located very
close to the existing hopper structure based on techno-
economic considerations. The foundation depth and SBC
were adopted based on data available for Line 1 close to
surge hopper location. During foundation excavation,
the water table was encountered almost at ground level.
The construction team worked hard for dewatering and
isolated footings for this single storey building were cast
after a lot of efforts. The superstructure construction was
again delayed on account of hindrances by locals who were
demanding more employment and other favours. During this
construction hold period, uneven settlement of few footings
was discovered for the load centre building, threatening
its long-term stability. The ground situation became a
matter of concern, endangering the overall completion of
LS conveying to the plant. The civil design team sat again
with electrical, layout, and mechanical teams to arrive at
a solution involving the relocation of installations so that
impact on overall project implementation was minimized.
After discussion and evaluation of all options, it was
decided to combine this load centre with LS crusher load
centre by increasing the size of the LS crusher load centre
building which was already at first-floor beam level. This
solution had the least impact on project cost and execution
time. Engineering drawings and electrical drawings
were modified within the next few days and the Project
continued to surge ahead; a major possible disruption had
been smoothly overcome!
On the engineering and manufacturing side, the project
