Day 3
CHANGE YOUR MACHINE
NEEDLE AND ROTARY-
CUTTER BLADES

For snag-free sewing,
change your machine
needle after stitching with
it for eight hours. Replace
your rotary-cutter blade as
soon as you see it skipping
threads in your cuts. If
you’ve recently changed
your blade, remove it from
the cutter and carefully
wipe away any lint and
residue. Add one drop of
sewing machine oil to the
center of the blade before
reassembling the cutter.

Day 4
CLEAN YOUR
SEWING MACHINE

Keep your machine in
tip-top shape with regular
cleaning. Reference your
machine manual for the
details or schedule a
professional servicing. To
keep track of when you last
cleaned it, each time it’s
cleaned or serviced write
the date on a sticky note
and press the note on the
inside cover of your manual.

Day 5
ORGANIZE SEWING
MACHINE PARTS
For each sewing machine
you own, get a small plastic
storage container to hold
the manual, accessories,
cords, and add-ons. Label
each container with the
name of the machine,
and place the containers
in an easy-to-access
spot. For more ideas, see
AllPeopleQuilt.com/985.

Day 6
WIND EXTRA BOBBINS
Prepare for hours of sewing
by winding extra bobbins
of your most-used thread
colors and pairing them
with matching spools of
thread. To store the pairs,
we like Bobbin Buddies,
which are plastic shanks
that connect spool and
bobbin.

Day 7
CORRAL THREAD
Take time to rewind loose
spools of thread, including
securing thread ends in
spool notches. If you have
trouble fi nding the thread
end when it’s in a notch,
mark the notch with a
permanent marker or a
piece of tape. Organize
thread by type (piecing,
quilting, or embroidery) so
you can easily fi nd what you
need. Ideally, thread should
be stored away from dust
and direct sunlight.

Day 8
MAKE A SUPPLY RUN
Take stock of supplies you
use often, such as thread
in your favorite colors,
machine needles, and rotary
cutter blades, and purchase
more if you’re running low.
Going forward, keep a small
pad of paper in your sewing
room so you can create a
list when you notice your
inventory is dwindling.

Day 9
HIDE CLUTTER
If visual clutter causes
you stress, hide it. Hang a
curtain in front of an open
closet or messy cabinet.
Swap clear storage bins
with solid baskets. If all else
fails, arrange the clutter in
rainbow color order.

WE RECOMMEND REPLACING YOUR SEWING MACHINE

NEEDLE AFTER STITCHING WITH IT FOR EIGHT HOURS.
