ASSEMBLE BLOCKS

Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.

Use a pencil to mark diagonal lines
in an X on wrong side of each solid
white 11" square (Diagram 1).

Place a marked solid white square
on work surface with unmarked
side up. Referring to Diagram 2,
align a solid blue 4^1 ⁄ 2 " square with
each corner of marked solid white
square. Pin solid blue squares in place,
positioning pins away from marked
diagonal lines on wrong side of solid
white square.

Flip over Step 2 unit to expose
marked side of solid white square.
Referring to Diagram 3, sew^1 ⁄ 4 " on
each side of marked diagonal lines,
stitching continuously across single-
layer center. Remove pins.

Referring to Diagram 4, cut on
marked diagonal lines. Press
attached triangles open (Diagram 5)
to make four subunits.
FINISHED QUILT: 763 ⁄ 4 " square
FINISHED BLOCK: 9" square
Yardages and cutting instructions are
based on 42" of usable fabric width.
Fabrics are Snow and Prussian
Blue from the Kona Cotton Solids
collection by Robert Kaufman Fabrics
(robertkaufman.com).

setting squares, setting triangles)
▫ 41 ⁄ 4 yards solid blue (blocks,
setting squares, setting and corner
triangles, binding)
▫ 71 ⁄ 8 yards backing fabric
▫ 85"-square batting
▫ Acrylic ruler marked with 45° angle


CUT FABRICS

Cut pieces in the following order.

From solid white, cut:
▫ 2—14" squares, cutting each
diagonally twice in an X for
8 setting triangles total
▫ 27—11" squares
▫ 4—9^1 ⁄ 2 " setting squares

From solid blue, cut:
▫ 8—2^1 ⁄ 2 ×42" binding strips
▫ 3—14" squares, cutting each
diagonally twice in an X for
12 setting triangles total
▫ 21—9^1 ⁄ 2 " setting squares
▫ 2—7^1 ⁄ 4 " squares, cutting each in half
diagonally for 4 corner triangles
total
▫ 108—4^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
