Use a pencil to mark a diagonal
line on wrong side of each beige
linen 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square.

Gather four marked beige linen
squares and two matching floral
21 ⁄ 2 × 41 ⁄ 2 " rectangles.

Align a marked beige linen
square with top end of a floral
21 ⁄ 2 × 41 ⁄ 2 " rectangle (Diagram 1; note
direction of marked line). Sew on
marked line. Trim seam allowance
to^1 ⁄ 4 ". Press open attached triangle.
Add a marked beige linen square to
bottom end of rectangle (Diagram 2;
again note direction of marked line)
to make a rectangle unit. The unit still
should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 × 41 ⁄ 2 " including seam
allowances. Repeat to make a second
rectangle unit.
CUT FABRICS
Cut pieces in the following order.
From beige linen, cut:
▫ 1—4^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " rectangle
▫ 2—2^1 ⁄ 2 × 201 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 4—2^1 ⁄ 2 × 121 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 48—2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
From each assorted floral 5" square,
cut:
▫ 2—2^1 ⁄ 2 × 41 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
From pink-and-green floral, cut:
▫ 1—12^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " rectangle
From cream print, cut:
▫ 2—14^1 ⁄ 2 × 201 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
▫ 1—4^1 ⁄ 2 × 161 ⁄ 2 " rectangle
ASSEMBLE BAG FRONT AND BACK
Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.
FINISHED BAG: 16 × 14 ×4"
FINISHED BLOCK: 4" square
