Associate editor Diane Tomlinson used a juvenile print to create

a child’s version of Ocean Breeze, fussy-cutting a barn motif for

the block centers. She used the same border treatment as the

original quilt, lining up the red border segments with the red

block centers.

Because of the juvenile print and the fact that the

quilt was probably going to be used by a child and

laundered oft en, I used a light 80/20 blend batting

and chose to not quilt it densely. Instead, I pulled

designs like chicken wire and the X in the barn door

from the fabrics and free motion quilted them using a

lot of rulers. No computerized designs were used.
