Alpay is focused on his digital
content, with two workstations set up
in his white-washed studio ready for
filming. Backgrounds need to stay the
same to keep videos consistent, and
all sorts of easels, cameras and lights
are dotted about. It’s a dedicated
process and one the artists fits in
between longer stints of painting for

exhibitions, which takes priority.
As these two facets of his studio
practice allow Alpay to flex different
skillsets, he finds it impossible to pick
a favourite. However, he believes they
will become ever-more intertwined.
“The idea for the future is to bring
these things together,” he says.
“I think that’s the future of art in

general: the world online and the
world offline will get closer.”
If that’s the case, Alpay Efe is surely
the artist who can unite these two
opposing spheres. He has, after all,
already injected 21st-century appeal
into timeless subjects and let wild
animals loose in fine art galleries.
