The Jerwood Collection
17 April to 27 March 2022
There have been many firsts over the past 12
months as we’ve adapted to new ways of
living, but here is one to finally get excited
about – the celebrated Jerwood Collection will
be undertaking its first-ever residency. Over
the course of the year, four curators will put
together four different exhibitions, featuring
works from renowned 20th-century painters,
including LS Lowry and Sir Stanley Spencer,
as well as leading contemporaries, such as
Rose Wylie and Maggi Hambling [below].

Raymond Briggs: A Retrospective
30 April to 18 August
It’s ironic that the person behind two of the
best-loved Christmas characters – The
Snowman and Father Christmas – hates the
holiday season. Yet beneath Raymond Briggs’
Scrooge-like outlook is an illustrator capable
of telling powerful visual stories with humour

and sensitivity. Celebrating the breadth of his
career, this touring exhibition from the House
of Illustration brings together artwork from his
personal archive with materials from books
such as Mother Goose, Fungus the Bogeyman
and Ethel and Ernest.
