PC Magazine - USA (2021-03)

The worst 5G take I’ve ever read? A Business
Insider reporter got taken in by a Huawei PR
campaign trying to promote a Turkish professor
as the “inventor of 5G.” Wired did, too. The logic
goes that he invented 5G in the form of polar
coding, and Huawei commercialized his theory,
so Huawei “controls 5G” and is very important.
This is completely false and ridiculous. Polar
codes are just one of many important parts of 5G,
LQYHQWHGE\PDQ\GL̆HUHQWSHRSOH%XWDVWKH%,
story continues to show, this is also a very
valuable narrative to forces in the United States
who want to turn the “race to 5G” into a cold war
between the US and China. Resist.

Have thoughts about any of this? Hit me up on
Twitter @saschasegan. I’ll reply.
