Maths Inside Baseball

(qra1234) #1

In playing 162 games every year, we are able to know there are many
possibilities of arranging starting lineups. Despite the variety of
arrangements, there are not these much different lineups submitted.
Each order of the lineup has a role to play, and each player has their own
roles based on their specialities and their team. So without particular
issues such as injuries, line-ups are somewhat fixed.

The probability of an event A is defined as the number of outcomes
favourable to A divided by the total number of equally likely outcomes in
the sample space S of the experiment. The formula is P(A)=nn((SA))

Probability of complementary event ACfor event A is
P(AC)= 1 −P(A)

Conditional probability is the probability of an event (B), given that
another (A) has already occurred.
P(B|A)=PP(A(A⋂)B)(P(A)> 0 )

Probability of events A and B occurring together is
P(A⋂B)=P(A)×P(B|A)=P(B)×P(A|B)

If the probability of one event doesn’t affect the other, you have an
independent event. If events A and B are independent, the probability of
events A and B occurring together is
P(A⋂B)=P(A)×P(B)
