Cartwright was also the one who contrived the first recording method of
a baseball game. However, his method was very vague and unclear. There
was no separation between hits and errors. It was a primitive system
which only separated outs, hits, walks, and runs each inning.


Today, we use a box-score recording method. Box-score records the game
in detail, by pitcher, batter, and innings. It is specific enough so that we
can even assume what happened in the game without watching the game
again.
