Maths Inside Baseball

rulebook should be edited, saying that the sides should be
“approximately 12 inches” for the statement to be completely true. But
this rule for home plate has been in the books since 1900. So it stands to
reason baseball will continue with this tradition, even if it’s slightly
mathematically incorrect.

Anyways, let's draw the infield of a baseball field. From the end of a
home plate, measure 127ft 3 ⅜ inches vertically and set the center of a
second base. After, from the same end of a home plate, draw the foul
lines so that the lines are touching the sloped side of a home plate. Then,
measure 90 ft along the left and right foul line starting from the tip of a
home plate. Let two points be the further vertex of third and first base,
correspondingly.
