Maths Inside Baseball

modern baseball to increase their batted ball speed. It has now become
very common for hitters to modify upper swings to create ideal home
run launch angles, which were also avoided in the past. Besides the
efforts from players, each team analyses datas of each of their player’s
batted balls and calculate the best launch angle and exit velocity for each
player, training and coaching based on the results.

// Velocity and Acceleration

Let's look at the definition of speed and velocity. In physics, speed is a
scalar quantity, is the rate at which an object covers distance. It is also the
absolute value of a velocity.

Speed(m/s)= distance / time |
|Δt

Δd|
|^
(Δ represents “the change in”)

On the other hand, velocity is a vector quantity; it is direction-aware.
Velocity is the rate at which the position changes.

Velocity(m/s)= distance / time ΔΔdt

For example, a car with velocity of 5m/s and -5m/s travels in different
directions. It has different velocity but has the same speed. In a linear
movement, where an object moves in one direction, speed and velocity
are the same. An acceleration is change in velocity.

Acceleration(m/s^2 )=(final velocity − initial velocity) / time
