including exit velocity, launch angle, contact spot, flight time and flight
distance of a batted ball, and rotation speed, velocity, break movements
and spin directions of a pitched ball. From Chyronhego, we can collect
datas of runners and fielder’s movement, such as lead distance,
maximum and average velocity, first step, and time to next base taken of
a runner. It also detects the fielder’s reaction speed, fielding velocity,
efficiency of movements and arm strength.8 terabytes of data is collected
from a single game of baseball.
In 2015 MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, where investigations of
all sport analytics are presented, Statcast was introduced to the public.
2013 July 23th, Atlanta Braves were on 2-1 lead against New York Mets
in two outs, bottom 9th. With full bases loaded, Mets’ hitter Justin
Turner hits a hard line-drive to left-center field against the Braves’ closer
Craig Kimbrel. Center Fielder Jason Heyward quickly sprinted towards
the ball, succeeded a dive catch, and saved their victory. Statcast has
analysed this wonderful catch as follows.
