DearCarol

Werecentlyboughta houseinBeachHaven,Auckland,

andareata losstoknowwhattodowiththegarden.We

wanttocreatesomeindoor-outdoorflowbyremoving

a largewindowandinstallinga bifolddoortoan

entertainingareainthisnorth-facingpartofthegarden.

It wouldbegoodtoaddsomeplantsforprivacyhere,

togiveusa littlescreeningfromtheroad– I don’tmind

removingsomeoftheexistingtreesandreplacingthem

withmoresuitable ones but would like to keep the

silverbirch.

Thegardendrainswellandis ona slightslope.We

getgoodall-daysunshine.Thereis a stormwaterpipe

runningthroughtheareabutit is 1.9mbelow ground.
