Fortunately,thelayoutofthe
60-square-metrecottagewasmostly
good,meaningthecoupleonlyhadtomake
a fewstructuralchangessuchasshiftingthe
doortothemasterbedroomtwometresfurther
upthehallway,allowingthebedtobemoved
totheoppositewalltotake advantage of the
gloriousseaviews.
“It’snicetolieinbedandseethesea,
especiallyinthewinter when it’s stormy
outside,”saysJade.
Theyalsoremoveda datedpotbellystove
inthelivingroom,aswellasa rottenwindow,
whichwasreplacedwithslidingdoors.
Theirbiggestjobwasconvertingthe
crampedbathroomintoa bright,white
sanctuary.Thatinvolvedborrowingspacefrom
theadjacentlinencupboardtogivethemsome
badlyneededstorage.Theyalsorelocatedthe
toiletandreplacedtheclaw-foot bath with a
modernrainshower.

THEKITCHEN
Thankfully,thekitchencupboards
wereingoodcondition,sothecouple
paintedthemwhiteandreplacedthecanary
yellowFormicabenchtopwitha neutral
laminatetop.Theyalsodemolisheda wallof
built-incupboardsandreplacedthemwith
simpleplyshelving.Thoseshelvesarenow
hometosimplecrockeryandaccessories in
glass,ceramicandcopper.
“Althoughthecottageis rentedmostlyto
bridalpartiesduringsummer,wehosttourists
yearround,andwealsouseit someweekends
whenit’sfree,soweneededprettyrobust
furniture, bedding and appliances,” says Jade.

KITCHENTheoriginallurid
tealcupboardsandyellow
benchtopwerereplacedwith
naturalplywoodanda
stone-looklaminatewhich
Jadeaccessorisedwith
traditionalcopperaccents
and sweet retro details.
