“Weweredoingupthehouseandschoolon
a budgetsoI hadtobecleveraboutthedecor,”
shesays.ThisincludedtrawlingTradeMeand
garagesalesforthemixtureofmid-century
chairsinthelivingroom,whichJadethen
hadreupholstered.Hermagpie-likeinstincts
alsoturnedupthevintage mirrors dotted
throughoutthehouse.
AlthoughJadeoriginallywantedtopolish
therimufloors,shehadtoadmit defeat soon
aftershe’dstartedsanding.
“Theydidn’tlookasgoodasI’dhoped,plus
it cangetreallycoldhereinthewintersoI
thoughtcarpetwouldbecosier.”Shechosea
darkgreycarpetforthethreebedrooms and
optedforvinylinthekitchen.
Jade’smother-in-lawtaughthertosew,
whichenabledhertowhipupthecurtainsfrom
fabricfoundonsale.Jade’seyefora bargain
wasalsorewardedwiththewallpaperusedin
twoofthethreebedrooms,includinga striking
yellow design picked up for $20 a roll.BATHROOM,BEDROOMS

foundina bargainbin,and
cheap,cheerfulfindsfromKmart
andTheWarehousecombine
