‘I lovedeveryminuteofit,’saysGeorgina.‘I wanted
tocreatea realhomefromhomeforus.’
Thecouple’sdecisiontobuya holidayhomecame
aftertheyhadlookedfora biggerhousewherethey
liveinHampshire,butcouldn’tfindanythingsuitable
onthemarket.‘Sowechosetobuya holidayhome
insteadandvisitasmanyweekendsaspossible,’says
Georgina.‘JameshadalwaysgonetoDevonforfamily
holidays,sowetooka triptothearea three years
agoandI fellinlovewithit,too.’
GeorginaandJamesdiscoveredtheformer
coastguard’scottage,nestledina hamletjustoutside
Salcombe,online.Thesettingcouldn’tbemore
idyllic– thepropertysitswithinanAreaofOutstanding
NaturalBeautyandis justa five-minutestrollfrom
a sandybeach.There’sanenclosedcourtyardgarden
atthefrontanda south-facinggardenwithviewsover
farmlandattherear.‘Thedaywewenttoviewit turned
outtobethehottestdayoftheyear!Welovedit atfirst
sightandputinanofferthatafternoon,’saysGeorgina.
‘We loved the original features – there was an Aga and
