Dürer’s Journeys: Travels of a Renaissance Artist at the National Gallery,
London, tells the story of Dürer’s travels across Europe, through paintings,
drawings, prints and letters. Born in Nuremberg in 1471, Dürer established
a reputation across Europe for his high-quality woodcut prints when he was
in his twenties and forged relationships with many of the major artists of his
day. The exhibition explores how his work sparked exchanges of ideas with
Nertherlandish and Italian Renaissance artists, and many of these artists’
works are also included in the exhibition. This is the first major UK exhibition
by the artist in nearly 20 years, bringing together loans from museums and
private collections around the world. Keep a look-out for accompanying
events at the gallery once opening times are confirmed.
Dürer’s Journeys: Travels of a Renaissance Artist can be seen at the
National Gallery (Sainsbury Wing), London, from March 6 to June 13. Check
the website for updates on opening times at http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk
