The white gouache has given the flow of
water that little added movement; I was
careful not to overdo it, just a little here and
there to emphasise the motion and add some
sparklest u STAGE SIX
All the main elements of the
painting were now in place.
You’ll see that I strengthened
all the shadow areas in the
rocks and within the water. All
that remained was to establish
some of the foam highlights
within the rushing water to
give it some sparkle – I used
my rigger and some creamy
white gouache, starting off by
using a fairly dilute mix, which
would dry a fairly muted white.
I then went in with a stronger
mix which that would be much
whiter and flicked some paint
into the spray areasBarry Herniman
