Whilst the pandemic was raging at the beginning of 2020, David Hockney
began a period of intense artistic activity from his home in Normandy
recording the arrival of spring on his iPad. Each of the resulting works were
then printed onto paper, with Hockney overseeing all aspects of production.
Much larger than the surface on which the paintings were created, each of
them allows you to see every stroke of Hockney’s hand. The exhibition, which
represents a joyous celebration of the season, opens at the Royal Academy of
