(singke) #1

I wanttosharemyexperienceof 12
years of ownership of a Nissan Navara
for towing. We purchased ours new
in 2007 after reading that Caravan &
Outdoor Life had chosen this as their
then ‘Bakkie of the Year’. To date it has
completed 357 000 km towing a Jurgens
Palma caravan.
And if it’s not towing, then we use
our roof-top tent – simple economics
for longer distance travels around our
beautiful country.
This Navara has never needed oil or
water between normal services.
I had the clutch replaced at 280 000
km... not because it needed it, but rather
because I am paranoid!
I believe this vehicle is a fantastic
advert for Nissan. The body is still in
excellent condition and my wife and I
are the only drivers.
This photo was taken last year at
‘Die Punt’ in Mossel Bay on our way
to the Trekkers 42nd National Annual
General Meeting, which was held in
Stellenbosch. Here we received our
200th Outing Gold Pendent.
We have been caravanning since
1979 when we purchased our first
caravan, a Gypsey 1 from Caravan
Craft in Port Elizabeth. We later traded
it in for a new Gypsey 3, and thereafter
a Sprite Major.
We joined the Caravan Club of
Southern Africa in October 1979 and in
2001 we joined Trekkers Laager 7.
In our 41 years of caravanning
with the Caravan Clubs we have only
missed three rallies, or outings, due to

unforeseen circumstances.
On our last count we have attended
with the CCSA Rallies / Rally SA / Rally
Cape ETC and Outings over 550 times,
in other words I’ve lost count.

Godfrey: Wow, an equally impressive
innings from both the Tinley family as well
as Nissan’s Navara! Considering the fact
that caravan clubs go on weekend rallies
once a month and you have only missed
three weekends in 41 years, well done! A
remarkable achievement.
Caravan clubs provide a great reason
to use your caravan and visit different
resorts. In addition to creating great
memories you seem to make life-long
friends of fellow club members. Strange
that clubs no longer seem to have the
public visibility that they once enjoyed.
I am open to
correction,
the CCSA
was once
the largest
club with
some
14 000
members!
And to
any sceptics
out there
that towing
destroys a
motor car –
here’s one that
has done
357 000km!

Congratulations to

Soap Dispenser.
Perfect for any caravan or
motorhome bathroom, the
200 ml dispenser is a
transparent container that

practical, long-lasting push
button pump dispenses
approximately 100 doses.
