DPI winners. There is also a special award for
the most improved member. The club also
competes with other local clubs and also
with the Cambridge Camera Club’s annual
competition. Our committee, including the
sub-committee for inter-club image selections,
is a dedicated team of like-minded people
passionate about the club and its success. We
have also recently been awarded a National
Lottery bid for a new projector and screen.
Our programme is varied, with presentations,
competitions and club outings.

Describe a typical club meeting.
Members begin to arrive around 7pm, and
gather around until the meeting commences at
7.30pm. Our chairman announces the notices
and any special items to be brought to the
members’ attention before we enjoy the
evening’s programme.

Do you invite guest speakers?
We like to include lots of different speakers
within our schedule. This year’s programme
includes several guest speakers including
professional photographer James Sparshatt
who gave an illustrated talk about his journeys
in Cuba and his black & white processing
techniques. Coming up we have BBC
weatherman Chris Bell giving his photographic
talk on storm chasing in the USA, and we
will also have the professional photographer,
Roger Hance.

Do members compete in national or
regional competitions?
We have several of our members who
compete in national competitions, in
particular those organised by the Royal
Photographic Society, Sony and national
newspapers and magazines.

What are the club’s goals for the future?
We are always looking to provide our
members with the best opportunities to
improve their knowledge and skills with
photography. So our strategy to meet our
objective is to continue with actions
commenced to:

  • Hold continuous improvement technical
    evenings

  • Post-processing workshops

  • Studio evenings (subject to obtaining
    suitable equipment)

  • Assist those members who want to gain
    RPS and PAGB Distinctions

  • Have a wider membership doing well in
    competitions.
