THE TRUE STORY OF...

Time passed. We
did not see her. We
grew anxious and called
her daughter. Katherine
was doing fine; she was
taking care of herself
and her husband at
home. She was not
using a cane or walker
and was not in pain. She
had purchased a special
three-wheel walker for
outdoor jaunts. Shark
cartilage was recom-
mended as a mainte-
nance supplement.
The calendar rolled
on. It would be three
years before we saw her
again (page 513).
NOTE: ranges
shown in parentheses
are laboratory “normal”
ranges and are included
only when they are no-
tably different from laboratory ranges cited earlier (because laboratories dif-
fer). To remind yourself what I consider a “healthy” range, please tear
out the chart on page 208 and use it as a bookmark. “Verified” means the
lab knew the result was at an extreme and repeated the test.

2 Michelle Symanski Liver Cancer

Michelle Symanski came to Mexico after she was told by United States
surgeons that she had inoperable liver cancer. She was only twenty-three
years old and had two very young children. She was wearing a pain patch
(morphine).
One look at her liver scan explains this. She had tumors, including one
very large one, making up all of the right side. But the left side (not shown)
had a small portion that was uniform and smooth, without granules. This
probably was the functioning part that was keeping her alive.
