the teeth used for the lower set had come from an untested lot. He made a
new lower set. They tested free of all pollutants. He could put them in his
mouth. It was a perfect fit. He had been worried about the appearance of his
smile. But his smile was beautiful—as any smile based on happiness is.
His last chest X-ray, done November 7, showed no heart enlargement,
ventilation was normal, lymph nodes even better than the last time. He could
go home. But he was not about to leave without his precious X-rays. Fortu-
nately, I had already sent them to be reproduced, or we would not have this
story to tell.
Summary: Bernard had the patience and tenacity it takes, in a research
setting, to accomplish his purpose and to leave no stone unturned. He de-
served his success.
