Paul Garcia, in his early thirties, was an employee of the Diagnostic
Center. Like other Mexicans in Tijuana, he had become habituated to drink-
ing bottled water, instead of boiling it, and soda pop as a beverage. His can
of pop for lunch was neatly hidden from view though. And after lunch he
smelled of tobacco smoke. He had no symptoms whatever.
It was late Saturday afternoon and my plan was to search for the pres-
ence of DNA and RNA in as many healthy persons as possible, using about
40 organ slides. The pure samples of DNA and RNA had recently arrived,
and I wanted to see whether they could be detected everywhere, nowhere, or
at selected locations. There were still a few employees present who would be
willing to “sit” for testing, besides some staff members.
The DNA and RNA samples were left in their original bottles, and sim-
ply placed on one Syncrometer plate while the organ slide was placed on the
