With RS of an inner and outer ear tog, sew seam, leaving a 3cm gap
at top. Turn RS out, sew rem seam then fold cast-off edge tog.
Place Ears at side of head where garter st crown begins, with centre
seam of Hat at back. With inner ear facing to the front of Hat, sew
top of Ears for about 3cm to make sure they are secure. Weave in all
loose ends.

SNOUT
Beginning at base, cast on 34 sts using 3.25mm needles and Ice.
Work 4 rows in garter st.
St st 2 rows.
Next row (K2, k2tog) to last 2 sts, K2. [26 sts]

Next row Purl.
Next row (K1, k2tog) to last 2 sts, K2. [18 sts]
Next row Purl.
Next row (K2tog) to end. [9 sts]

Cut yarn and thread through. Pull up sts tightly and secure. Pin
snout in position at centre of face so that the pull-up sts sit in line
with brim when turned up, with the curved part uppermost (there
will be a ‘V’ shaped gap at bottom of snout – this is to help the
brim sit flat when turned up). Sew snout in position around curved
outer edge. Add filling to snout but do not overstuff. Use Pitch
Black to work a ‘Y’ shape for nose (spanning about 7 sts at the
top), then a smaller curve at the bottom for mouth. Secure yarn
inside snout, then sew rem seam to hat.

EYES (MAKE 2)
Cast on 3 sts using 3.25mm needles and Pitch Black.
Row 1 Sl1, k2tog, psso.

Cut yarn and thread through rem stitches. Pull up sts tightly and
secure. Place eyes in position about 2.5cm either side of snout,
with top of eyes in line with top of snout. Weave in ends securely
at back of Hat.

A few rows of garter stitch at the
edge of the rib adds a pretty detail
to this sweet lamb baby hat

1 Insert the point of the right-hand
needle through the loops of the
next two stitches as if to knit.

2 Wind the yarn round the tip of the
right-hand needle and pull the yarn
through the two stitches, knitting
them both together.

3 Drop the two stitches from the
left-hand needle and keep the new
stitch on the right-hand needle.

4 Knitting two stitches together
decreases your stitch count by one,
and the decrease stitch leans to the
righ t. This is how a series of k2tog
decreases will look.
