TOP TIPS FOR PERFECT CABLES
1 Always choose a cable needle
that’s the same circumference
as your knitting needles (for
example 4mm) or one size
smaller. This will ensure your
cables are nice and neat, and
eradicates a significant amount
of bagginess between stitches.

2 Swatching is very important
when it comes to cables
because the fabric they create
puckers across the width more
than stocking stitch. Most cable
patterns will include a separate
tension for the cable section so
you can compare your results.

3 Worried that your stitches will
slip off your cable needle while
you work around it? Try
swapping your metal cable
needle for a bamboo one. The
matt texture of the bamboo
helps to grip your stitches more
securely as you work.

STEP-BY-STEP M1 MAKE 1 INCREASE

1 Insert the point of the right-hand
needle under the loop or line of yarn
that lies between the two stitches.

2 Next slip the yarn back on to the
left-hand needle, ready for knitting.

3 Insert the point of the right-hand
needle into the back of the stitch as
if to knit.

4 Pull the yarn all the way through
and you will now have an extra
stitch on your right-hand needle.
