21st Century

COLOURS
At the age of 92, Royal Academician, Philip Sutton, has taken the
positive step of opening a new gallery in Dorset, the county of
his birth. Philip continues to work every day in his 18th century
cottage in West Bay, painting throughout the pandemic. In a recent
interview he said: ‘I’m lucky because I don’t have television and
I don’t listen to the radio, so for all the time everybody’s so very
upset I just work away quietly like a monk.’ At the time socially
distanced meetings were allowed he even held impromptu
exhibitions on his front lawn. The new gallery at St. Michael’s Arts
& Crafts Quarter in Bridport, will be managed by his daughter,
Rebekah and granddaughter, Rifka, and will open with a collection
of 45 oil paintings from the past 20 years. Philip Sutton RA – His
21st Century Colours runs until January 28. The gallery is open
from Wednesdays to Sundays by appointment and the works are
available to view and buy online at http://www.philipsuttonra.com

UK Coloured

Pencil Society

For the first time ever, the UK Coloured Pencil Society held its
popular annual exhibition online. The show was to have taken
place at Nature in Art in Gloucester but was forced to move online
at the end of 2020. Despite the disappointment in not having an
actual show, the organisers felt that the online exhibition offered
an opportunity for more overseas members to enter works, so there
was a silver lining. The selected exhibition and all award-winning
works can be seen at http://www.ukcps.org.uk
The society was founded in 2001 and new members are always
welcome. Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible and all levels are
considered. For more information, visit http://www.ukcps.org.uk
