USE THE ELECTRONIC LEVEL

A WONKY horizon is the

first thing the viewer sees

when looking at an image

as they’re easily spotted

• luckily they’re just as
  easy to fix. Press the Info
  button a few times on
  your Canon camera until
  you see the electronic
  level appear (it works in Live View too). If you’ve already
  taken the shot you can correct this in Photoshop with the
  Crop Tool, then grab the grab the Straighten Tool from the
  Options bar and drag it over your horizon to make it true.

RONNIE’S COMMENT

I knew that the moment the sun hit

the horizon I’d be able to get this

wonderful sunburst effect if I used a high

enough aperture. It would have been perfect

if the sun was setting directly behind the

castle to get the sunburst coming over the top of one of the

towers, or even through a window, but sadly I must have left

my luck in Ireland... When it finally set, it went down behind a

hill to the left of the castle. To take this shot I set my camera

to Aperture Priority mode, so I could dial in a high aperture of

f/18 and set the ISO to 100 for best quality. I shot in Raw and

took a bracket of shots to give me a chance of at least one of

the photographs being correctly exposed.
