FKA Twigs’
Huge Return
FREAKY
FRIDAY
Megan Thee
Stallion is one of
the year’s big
breakout artists,
with her rap hit
“Big Ole Freak.”
She hung
backstage at a
Hot 97 event in
New York, part of
a promo tour she’s
been on while
also attending
classes as a
full-time student
at Houston’s
Texas Southern
University. “I try
not to make being
a rapper a huge
deal,” she tells
ROLLING STONE.
“I try to get all my
work done and
turned in as soon
as I can.” She
plays Lil Wayne’s
New Orleans
music festival in
September.
THE MOTHERSHIP LIFTS OFF George Clinton played a bash at Los Angeles’ JammJam fest to
celebrate his recent Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He was joined by Ice Cube, a massive
P-Funk fan who recently released a tribute song, “That New Funkadelic.” “[I was] reaching for the
litness,” Clinton says of this photo. He’s on what he recently called his final tour, though his band
will continue: “I would love to keep on doing this, but I’ll be 78. Even though I feel like I’m just
getting started, the reality is the group needs to go ahead and keep it going.”
THE GREAT
GIG IN THE
GROUND
In New York,
Roger Waters
sells out MSG —
but he still takes
the subway.
The singer was
caught napping
on the 6 train.
He recently
joined old
bandmate Nick
Mason at the
Beacon Theatre.
FKA Twigs hasn’t released a new album
since 2014’s LP1, which pushed the U.K.
dance genre “grime” in a bold, bracing
new direction. She finally returned to the
stage with a new show, Magdalene, in New
York, which combined her dark synth-pop
with choreography, costume changes and
even a sword dance. She is set for more
performances this summer.

DIPPING IN Diplo made a big entrance at
Baltimore’s InfieldFest, where he skydived in front
of the festival audience before running directly
onstage. He just announced a country-music
project, which he will release as Thomas Wesley.
