- If you opt to explore the interaction between multiple
design concepts (e.g., color scheme, elements of art, and
design principles), create a matrix with a column for each
concept and assignment. It also helps to assign each column
its own die that is unique in color, size, and/or shape. - Adopt your own ‘house rules’ in which you always get
fi nal say in the fi nal design.- Change assignments as needed. Once you get started,
you may fi nd some assignments just aren’t working
for you. When I fi rst started my 100 Days of Dice
Designs, ‘form’ was included as one of my six elements
of art and I really struggled to achieve form using a
2-D medium. So instead of abandoning ship entirely,
around Day 26 I replaced it with ‘size/scale.’ - Reroll dice and/or change the roll, especially if you get
repeat or similar rolls within a few days of each other. - Ignore the dice roll if it simply doesn’t work for you
and/or the piece. - Choose to not roll at all. I chose not to roll the
dice for my fi nal day of Dice Designs and instead
challenged myself to see how many colors, elements
of art, and design principles I could incorporate.
