Beloved developer Double Fine
Productions joins Xbox Game Studios
Psychonauts 2 and post-apocalyptic
roguelike Rad, will continue as
planned and launch on all announced
platforms, but for future games the
studio will (obviously) focus purely
on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass. Tim
Schafer teases that the team has two
secret projects yet to be announced,
including one led by Lee Petty
(Stacking, Headlander), and that he’s
already got some ideas for a third.
The studio will also continue its
Amnesia Fortnight annually as normal.
This experimental game jam helps
prototype new ideas that fans can try,
and raises money for charity. QDouble Fine Productions is one of the
most creative studios in the industry,
its games turning weirdness into an
art form. So it’s a pleasure to hear
that we’ll be seeing a lot more of the
developer, now it’s been acquired by
Microsoft and brought into the Xbox
Game Studios family.
Founded by ex-LucasArts veteran
Tim Schafer, Double Fine has existed
as a fully independent company for
over 20 years. For those unfamiliar,
this is the team behind smash
Kickstarter success Broken Age, cult
classic Psychonauts, and everyone’s
favourite Halloween game, Costume
Quest, as well as loads of other quirky,

In an announcement video, Schafer
is quick to reassure fans that Double
Fine’s winning formula won’t be
changing, and he enthuses that no
longer having to pitch games around
to all the different publishers will be a
huge boon going forward.
