Where we stayed
A new arrival on the busy hotel
scene in Bat h is Eight , a n
independent boutique hotel and
restaurant in a converted
townhouse dating back to the 1600s,
run by husband and wife team,
Fred (head chef ) and Nathalie
(general manager).
It’s in the heart of the old town,
a five-minute walk from the train
station and just a stone’s throw from
the Abbey; from your bedroom you
can hear the church bells ring.
The eight rooms are sleek,
characterful and compact with
elegant furnishings and all the
luxuries – comfy beds, good linen,
great shower with White Company
products and a Nespresso machine
for cosy morning coffees in bed.
There’s a large deluxe and a triple
room for families, too.

S

o, Bath may be a well known and popular choice for a short break but
it’s with very good reason. Look beyond the tourist hotspots and you’ll
find an alternative side to the city, brimming with small independent
shops and creative folk. Go during the winter months and enjoy quiet
streets, the smell of woodsmoke lingering in the night air and traditional
pubs that entice visitors through their glowing stained-glass windows.
Famous for its architecture and its historic centre, Bath also offers very easy access
to nature with green hills that roll down into the city, providing walkers with the best
views of the World-Heritage-preserved Georgian cityscape, and miles of canal and
river paths ideal for strolling or cycling.
