MAG OF THE MONTH

  • Brave Your Day •
The clue is in the title:
    a magazine celebrating
    everyday bravery, in
    all of its forms. With
    personal stories from
    the States to Scotland,
    as well as interviews
    with innovative
    entrepreneurs and
    those working to bring
    about change in our

communities, a flick
through their pages
will inspire you to be a
bit more courageous.
That’s the magazine’s
central tenet, borne
out in person and
online as well as print:
bravery can be a
contagion – pass it on.

THE ZX81 HOME COMPUTER
And 81 is the percentage of male
computer science undergrads and
the number of us who only skim
what we read online. Apparently,
81% of us look at our phones in the

to hypnotic suggestions increases
time spent in deep sleep by 81%.

GARDEN HA
CKS

A prime opportunity for saving water at home.
Using a weight to displace water in the cistern is
a simple way to reduce the amount of water
used to flush the toilet.
Take an old plastic bottle filled with sand and
water. Some hardware stores also sell used
bricks. Remove the cover from the cistern and
submerge the weight into the tank. You’ll reduce
the amount of water required to fill the cistern.
You may need to play around with different
weights to ensure your loo has enough water
pressure to flush through. When replacing your
toilet, look for a dual flush that uses different
amounts of water for solid versus liquid weights.
Toilet paper is another hot topic when it comes
to bathroom waste. In America alone, 15 million
trees are used annually for the production of
toilet paper. Manufacturing a recycled paper roll
generates half the CO2 emissions produced
when you make one from virgin paper. Bamboo
toilet paper is a great alternative. Look for toilet
paper wrapped in paper as well, or for
sustainable toilet paper brands that are
consciously producing their products with
minimal environmental impact.
