OFind carpets of wild garlic in old
woods, and nettles in woodland
clearings, around old settlements
and on allotment sites.
OBoth plants grow close to the
ground, so take care to avoid areas
near paths that are used by dogs.
OPick wild garlic when the leaves
are about a hand’s length. Cut from the
base rather than uprooting the bulb.
OThe younger they are, the more
tender wild garlic will be. Once the
fluffy white flowers appear, nettles
are considered past their best.
OUse rubber gloves (see below) to
pick nettle tips to avoid the sting. Opt
