VEGAN FASHION WEEK, thought to be
thefirst event of its kind in the world,
unfolded with a plant-based punch in Los
Angeles this spring. Creative director and
founder Emmanuelle Rienda described
the four-day event as “fashion meets
activism with a deeply conscious twist”.
Guests viewed animal-free designs on the
runway, and in the vegan lounge, there
was animal-free fashion, beauty and food
from around the world. “People are
looking for transparency and compassion
in their wardrobes,” said Emmanuelle.

SMALL CHANGE

Athletes who triumph at the
Tokyo 2020 Olympic and
Paralympic Games will
receive medals made from
recycled metal. Gold, silver
and bronze are being
salvaged from discarded
electronic devices and used
to form the 5,000 medals
required. Already, piles of
cameras, smartphones,
laptops and handheld
games have been donated
to the cause by Japanese
consumers and businesses.
