BIRD CARE EXPERTS CJ WILDLIFE HAVE NEST BOXES, FOOD AND

FEEDERS TO SEE BIRDS THROUGH THIS BUSY TIME OF YEAR

Nesting season

S

pring is in the air. The sound
of birdsong is loud and clear.
There are new lambs in the
fields and blossom dotting the
hedgerows. What isn’t as obvious to
the eye are the busy bird nests, which
are a hive of activity. Nest building,
egg laying, hatching and feeding is a
time of great change which we rarely
get to see before f ledglings take f light.

NATURAL ARCHITECTS
Each species has its own unique spin
on nest construction, using anything
and everything – twigs, leaves, moss,
feathers and more – to ensure their
nest is suitably insulated. After laying
their eggs and incubating them until
hatching, the majority of birds will

care for their chicks until they are
ready to leave the nest, and sometimes
beyond. Not only do adult birds have to
find food for themselves, but also they
exert more energy doing the extra food
runs for their chicks, too. Providing
enough food to satisfy a brood of
growing chicks can be a very intensive
process; some species, such as blue tits,
are thought to feed their young every
5–10 minutes throughout the day.
You can give them a helping hand with
a regular supply of high energy foods
from CJ Wildlife, such as sunf lower
seeds, kibbled peanuts and fat products.
Also, soft-bodied invertebrates such
as mealworms are incredibly rich in
the essential proteins young chicks
need to grow and thrive.

NEST WATCH

So fascinating is this important time,
that CJ Wildlife have made it possible
for you to witness these marvels
without disturbing the nest or even
leaving your seat. With the benefit of
24/7 nesting webcams, you can watch
the live action whether it is a little owl’s
lunchtime feast, a chick emerging from
its egg, some adorable allopreening
(a form of sociable grooming) or even
f ledgling tantrums. You’ll be captivated
by the characters of our favourite bird
soap operas, including everything from
great tits to goshawks. Take a front row
seat and enjoy the real eggs of Easter.
