CHAPTER 13. WHAT IS N95 MASK.
This chapter that we are starting may not be veryrelevant to the topic of the book as it is not
exactly technology, but it is very important to knowabout it and how it works.
During this pandemic, when there is no vaccine ormedication for the virus, it has become very
critical to protect ourselves and just prevent fromgetting affected by the virus. One of the very
important devices that help us in doing that is themask. Today whenever we have to go out, we
first take a mask and then the vehicle key. It iscompulsory to wear a mask today, especially N95
masks. Let us see what this ‘N95’ means and how themask protects us.
A mask is a protective device made to fit perfectlyover one's face and make a barrier between
contaminants in the surrounding environment and themouth and nose. They are also known as
facial respirators.
N: This is a Respiratory Rating Letter Class. Theseare different letters given to masks based on
whether they are useful in areas where oil is present.N stands for ‘Non-Oil’ means that it can
not be used where oil-based particles are present.It protects from solid and liquid-based
aerosol until it is not oil-based
There are other letters used like R is used for resistanceto oil particles for 8 hours and P is
used for ‘Oil-Proof’. You might wonder why masks aredifferentiated on the basis of oil
particulates. It's because oil particulates clogthe pores in the mask that helps in breathing. Soif
the pores are clogged, then the fresh air cannot enterthe mask, and the CO 2 that we exhale
