CHAPTER 2. SCIENCE BEHIND ELECTROCHROMIC GLASS
Oneplus has revealed its first concept phone on Jan8, 2020, with revolutionary technology of
electrochromic glass over the rear camera. It's anedition of the OnePlus7T Pro 5G McLaren
Edition.
The main reason to release this phone is to show thenew technology of electrochromic glass
which makes 3 cameras at the rear disappear and appearby double-tapping the home button. It
is the same technology that we find in luxury planesand hotels. It takes just 0.7s for glass to
become opaque and transparent.
How does electrochromic glass work?
Though it's called glass, there are electrochromicglass as well as plastics. It is also called
Smart Glass and Dynamic glass. Electrochromic glasscontrols various forms of light like
ultraviolet light, visible light and infrared lightwith the help of electricity. Along with electricityand
exposure of such light, the smart glass is able tochange from opaque to transparent.
When light is not available the particle gets scatteredcausing opacity and this is why glass can
be used for privacy, solar control, and shading.
And, when light is exposed particles get aligned causingtransparency for an open atmosphere.
