Prevent Hanger
Creases
home Don’t you hate
when you use a nice
wooden hanger for your
pants and still end up
with a big crease in them?
There’s a cheap and easy
way to avoid that: Bubble
Wrap. Wind it around the
hanger bar a couple of
times and secure it with
tape. The bubbles will
cushion even the most
wrinkle-prone fabrics,
such as linen.

Pick the Safest
Hotel Floors
travel The first and
second floors of hotels
are most vulnerable to
theft, so staying on a floor
above those will reduce
your chance of having
belongings stolen.
Another safety consider-
ation: Most fire engine
ladders can’t reach past
the sixth floor. Rest
easier all around by
requesting a room on
floors three to six.

Ice Your Coffee?
food The perfect cup of
joe might well start before
you even grind the beans.
There’s a growing body of
research suggesting that
freezing whole beans
will yield a better brew.
That may be because the
cold beans grind more
consistently, or maybe
they just stay fresher lon-
ger. On the other hand,
some coffee fanatics are
giving this whole idea the
cold shoulder.

Borrow Top-of-the-
Line Garden Tools
home Want to prepare
your garden but don’t
want to part with the
$160 or so it would cost
to buy an electric tiller?
No problem. Many home-
improvement stores (such
as Home Depot) will let
you rent gardening tools:
post-hole diggers, wheel-
barrows, hedge trimmers,
and more. Plus, these
stores’ premium-grade
tools are of better quality
than the ones you might
consider buying—and
perhaps use only once a
year. Some local libraries
also lend out tools along-
side their books.
