Generality:“Yellow”. 17

“Yellow”.
Personally, I have never been referred to as 'yellow',since my skintone
is brown, so I don't have any experiences with this. There have been
instances on the internet and media, where I havewitnessed people
using it as an insult (either outright racist or subconsciously, due to
internalized racism) especially against east asianpeople which were
really abhorrent and similar to the insults that Ihave heard referring to
my own skin tone. (e.g. People comparing yellowishskin tones with
urine or brown people with feces).
“Asian”.
That's a tough question... I suppose one conditionwould be to have a
valid connection to the continent- valid as in growingup with the
culture-but I can't really define it? If I had toexplain it tough... well, as
an example, there are always these instances wherepeople take tests
to trace back their lineage and then find out thatsomeone distantly
related to them has actually another ethnicity butthat's not enough to
make them part of that country or continent, is it?Even if they learnt
the traditions, the culture and the language it wouldjust count as
appreciaton, in extreme cases maybe even as appropriationand
nothing more because they didn't grow up with allthis. But on the
other hand I feel like this might exclude adoptedpeople so... this
definition is definitely flawed as well. In any caseI don't think it's a
matter of 'looks' whether you are asian or not.
Ethnicity|part1.
Bright colours, a very specific 'desi' kind of chaotic, the sweetest fruits,
religious, warm.
Ethnicity|part2.
I choose those words based mostly on childhood memoriesand
experiences- I have lived in europe my whole lifebut every summer my
family and I would fly back to Pakistan, 'go backto our roots' if you will
and make said memories- I suppose I just choosewhat I took away
from every visit. When people in austria (where Icurrently live) ask me
what Pakistan's like, I describe it in these words.
Differ from Asian stereotype(s).
I think most of all I defy the straight A's Studentstereotype? I was
really bad in school and my parents never urged meto have perfect
grades- they were satisfied with mediocre. I alsoattended arts school-
there's this stereotype of south asians always aimingfor careers such as
doctors, engineers or Lawyers... Anything that wouldbe seen as a
socially 'respectable' job I suppose. Nowadays, everytime I mention that
I am an Illustrater, the reaction is usually surprisedand there are these
tentative questions, whether my parents are 'okey'with it since they
must be very traditional people.
