Generality:“Yellow”. 179
also encourages discrimination against other minorities in america and
plenty of other predominantly white countries.
A theoretical space without racism.
i would be able to speak with my parents in publicwithout getting
side-eyed and do the sports that i want to (martialarts) without being
“stereotypical”. i would be a lot happier and verydifferent without all
the insecurities i’ve developed about race-relatedthings. my first
thought would probably be incoherent because i don’tthink i can
comprehend a world without racial prejudices.
Tell.
i don’t think i’ve told many people that i resenthow some aspects of
chinese culture works. the sense of family and sharedkindness are
incredible, but i don’t like how overly critical andunkind people can be.
asian netizens are overly obsessive with their idolsand so quick to
snoop or attack them when they don’t like somethingin particular. we
rely on each other but there’s always a sense of beingdistanced from
each other due to the competitive nature of our upbringing.there’s also
plentiful homophobia and racism in asian communities, which i believe
are some of the most significant problems, alongsideblatant misogyny,
bullying, classism, and lack of mental health services.it made me feel
like i shouldn’t reach out when i was struggling.the way asian society,
or at least what i have seen and experienced of it,frames suffering or
incompetence as something that should be hidden. youhave to be
flawless, or you will be forgotten.
Correct.
there have been times people, both strangers and friends, have said
things that i simply laughed at and pushed to theback of my mind.
when i look back on those memories, i realize thati should have
spoken up because i knew what they were saying ordoing made me
uncomfortable and i knew they would correct themselveswithout
taking offense, since we were young and kind, andwithout racial
prejudices.
To someone.
i wanted to mention this earlier, but in regards tothe black lives matter
movement that has recently died down a bit, we shouldall support
fellow minorities instead of turning discriminationinto a rivalry. i’m not
very good with words, whether i’m putting pen to paperor trying to
string words together verbally, so i can’t figureout a proper way to tell
other people of asian descent or background to beproud of their
culture and who they are. asian countries, from eastto west, from north
to south, are the roots for so many remarkable people, and i’d like
those people to remember just how wonderful they are.
