Generality:“Yellow”. 33
world I wouldn’t have to be afraid that anything I say or do or show can
be used against me, to discriminate or harrass me.
But I’m not gonna lie, because of the racism I experiencedas a child, I
learned to love myself even more. It’s just differentthough, like it’s sad
to have to say that ”Oh, I had to learn how to lovewhere I come from.
People would disrespect me for not being white.”.
Tell.
Nothing comes to my mind, I always try to be as openas possible when
people have opinions or questions about my ethnicity.Though I think it
is important that people shouldn't assume someonesmorals/beliefs
based on what they see or hear about the country inmedias regarding
politics, norms etc. A country/ethnicity doesn't definesomeone, no one
is the same.
Correct.
What comes to my mind is the many times people justassume that I
don’t know how to speak swedish. Instead of lettingthem get away
with it, I should’ve let them know that it’s reallyjust offensive to
assume that I don’t know how to speak ”your” languagejust because
I’m not white. This has happened so many times andI know that so
many others have experienced it.
And this is just one of many things that I’ve experienced, but this is a
very common one and it shouldn’t be that way.
To someone.
To anyone who feels like they have to live in a certainway because
they’re asian or that they have to adapt to fit in,you don’t. Nothing
could ever justify racism, but these are people whoonly project their
ignorance, lack of knowledge and insecurities ontoyou, it is never your
fault. Learn to embrace where you come from, yourheritage and
culture. Don’t limit yourself, you’re just as worthyand deserving as any
other human being. Stand up for yourself.
