Summary – Surgical Treatments

As of date, these are the common procedures performed by orthopods. Do
not be taken in by new-fangled techniques that have not been tried and tested
for years with favorable outcomes. The decision to go in for surgery must not
be taken lightly and a second opinion must always be sought. I have also
made you aware of the “Red Flags” – indicators that should be present to
necessitate immediate surgical attention. In the absence of these, surgery
may not be necessary and may, indeed, be harmful. As I have said before, the
presence of disc herniation or any other pathology on MRI does not mean
that surgery is required. Many of us are walking around perfectly well with
one or more of these disorders and may never need surgery at all.
