Murrieta Valley High School Young Knights

The Murrieta Valley High School Young Knights
program commenced this spring under the
advisement of new Order member Chev. Dean Nielsen
and fellow teacher Russell Welch. The officially
recognized club is dedicated to following the code of
chivalry and performing charitable works. The club
meets weekly to discuss the code of chivalry, striving
for personal excellence, and being charitable. The club
charter specifically focuses on performing two types of
charitable works: a local hands-on project and an
international cause. The students pick their own
projects and charities they wish to support. This
semester the students chose to volunteer at a local
nursing home, Murrieta Country Villa, in Murrieta,
California. The students assisted and provided
company to the elderly patients currently residing in
the facility. In addition, some of the students
volunteered to work at a student run car wash with
proceeds going to the Invisible Children of northern
Uganda. In addition to the charitable events, the
students hear monthly presentations from local
individuals discussing excellence, charity, or chivalry. It
is expected that the students will request speakers
that meet their interests and needs.

The Young Knights is recognized by the Order of St.
Stanislas, and members of the club are offered the
opportunity to become squires; however,
membership in the Order is not mandatory. Squires
will be eligible to become knights or dames with the
Order of St. Stanislas after three years of service.

Dame Barbara Hunsaker stated that the future of the
Order—and of charity itself—lies with the youth and
programs like the Young Knights.
