The 250th anniversary of the Order of St. Stanislas – Bishop Martyred, took place in Pelplin on May 1 0 th, 2009.
Numerous Dames and Chevaliers of the Order from Poland and all over Europe attended mass and the investiture
of new postulants and the appointment of the Priory of Pomerania. The purpose of the Order, as the Bishop said
in his sermon during the celebration of Holy Mass, designated by the king is to "support the poor, the sick and the
victims". In the end, the main celebrant thanked the commanders of the Order operating in the Diocese of Pelplin
for their abundant charitable activities as well as their presence and preparation of a beautiful liturgy. During the
ceremony, many supporters and promote the activities of the Order of St. Stanislas were awarded with
commemorative medals. Established by the King, the Order was intended to reward social merits for the country.
The Knights of the Order were obliged to support the king's charitable activities. After the death of King Stanislaw
August Poniatowski, the Order experienced "dark times". On June 9th, 1979, the then President of the Republic of
Poland in exile, Juliusz Nowina-Sokolnicki, by presidential decree, re-established the Order of St. Stanislas to the
Polish State awards. This decision of the restitution of the Order closed a dark period in the history of the Order,
restoring its property to the Polish people, becoming an international organization, having priories in many
countries.
