GET COMFY

A new report by American company Conti-
nental Office claims that the physical working
environment influences 23 per cent of
employees’ decisions to stay at or leave a
company – not so surprising when you consider
that the office is a home away from home for
so many, and the place where lots of our daily
activities occur. An increasing reduction in the
polarization of design for living and for working
coincides with the idea that life at home and at
the office doesn’t have to be so polarized either.

INTIMATE WORKSPACES that respect the fine balance between

business and leisure make it easier to get out of bed in the morning.

According to the report, work-at-home among
employed Americans has increased by 140 per
cent since 2005. Currently, many self-employed
individuals are opting for live-work settings:
spaces that house both office and private quarters,
harking back to an old-fashioned situation that
saw our ancestors running home and business
in one location. Keeping the office alive today
involves a few key elements for designers to
address: flexibility, adaptability, connection and,
perhaps most important, a cosy ambience. – LGM

Manufactured by Molteni&C, Unifor’s multifunctional Lounge
System was designed by Rodolfo Dordoni. For use in public and
private spaces, the line of sofas and armchairs – available with
(exaggeratedly) high or low backs – gives users a comfortable
place to relax, collaborate with colleagues and have small meetings.
Modularity allows the system to evolve in keeping with today’s
office environment.
