‘IT’S CRUCIAL FOR YOUNG DESIGNERS to
think outside the box. They are less inclined
than most of our more established designers
to allow technological barriers to influence
their work,’ says Kinga Grzybowska. ‘Their
concepts may turn out to be quite futuristic,
but that’s exactly what big companies can
benefit from. Such ideas challenge engineers
and push the industry forward.’ Together
with Michal Hondo, the Polish architect
received the Special Sustainability Award
at the 2016/2017 edition of jumpthegap®,
a biennial design competition organized by
Spanish sanitaryware brand Roca in collabo-
ration with the Barcelona Centre de Dis-
seny. Promoting the unrestrained approach
that Grzybowska refers to, the competition
gives international architecture and design
students and professionals under the age of
40 a platform for the presentation of bath-
rooms for the future. The eighth edition of
