GET OUTSIDE

As the temperatures rise, so do the

opportunities for spending time outdoors.

There are few nicer things than sitting in the

sun with a good book and a cold drink – so

is there a way to make the experience as

comfortable as curling up indoors during the

winter? These designs explore the potential for

the great outdoors to parallel the amenities and

cosiness that interiors provide. – LGM

During Design Indaba 2019,
Nairobi-based Studio Propolis and
Ikea unveiled their collaborative
design for the highly-anticipated
Överallt collection. The curved,
solid eucalyptus bench was born
from the Kenyan tradition of
gathering in a circle to talk with
family and friends, and it can be
paired with a stool or table.

Using the words of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Art Deco lighting for inspiration, Ramón
Esteve designed the Gatsby collection for Vondom. The lamps create an effervescent
atmosphere; the material reproduces the geometric shapes of engraved glass, and
users can select which colour they’d like projected at any given time.

Fast’s Zebra Knit line includes two lounge
chairs and a rocking chair, designed with
serenity in mind. Each of the models have a
painted stainless steel frame that’s covered
with self-supporting fabric mesh, and two
can be fitted with a headrest cushion for
ultimate relaxation.

Pedrali’s latest collaboration with Eugeni Quitllet resulted in the Remind armchair, a
piece that recalls the soft lines of wooden chairs from the late 19th century. Remind
can be used inside and out. It is functionally and aesthetically suitable for spaces like
gardens, patios and courtyards.
